Athlete and Business Major Starts Career with Sports Marketing Company

Malachi Williams ’24 grew up dreaming about competing in college athletics and then finding a career where he could stay connected to sports.
Goals achieved.
Williams served as a senior co-captain and finished with more than 1,000 total yards as a five-year member of the Flying Dutchmen football team. He also tied a school record with four rushing touchdowns against Albright during the 2020 exhibition season. Williams added to his athletic experience and joined the men’s basketball squad his senior year.
“The opportunity to play football while getting a great business education is the number one thing I was looking for,” said Williams about his college search. “I wanted to be challenged in the classroom and on the field. What set LVC apart was the comradery within the football program. I could tell from day one that I would be surrounded by good people striving to become better people. That is the kind of environment I wanted to join.”
After earning his degree in Business Administration in December, Williams now works at Playfly Sports, a full-service, integrated sports marketing and media company headquartered in Berwyn, Pa. Williams is a Billing Clerk on the Accounts Receivable team that collaborates with all organizational levels to assist with financial operations. He plays a key role in ensuring clients are billed accurately and promptly, supporting multiple business units with invoicing, and collaborating with the collections department on payment applications.
As Williams embarks on his career, he’s using lessons learned in courses that include Strategic Management, Business Apps, Principles of Finance, Organizational Communications, and Managerial Accounting.
“Each of these classes gave me skills like problem-solving and attention to detail,” he said. “In the finance and accounting industry, it’s important to be able to find problems and solve them, while also understanding the concepts that go into that process. My classes set me up to excel in my position at Playfly Sports.”
Williams gained added experience in sales, accounting, and operations during an internship with Enterprise Mobility. The internship also helped him determine the direction of his future career.
Reflecting on his time at The Valley, Williams recognized the importance of tradition and the welcoming community that greeted him on day one.
“My initial expectations were exceeded by my experience,” he said. “I did not expect to make life-long friends and mentors. I have met people from LVC that I know will be in my life for years to come. I did not see myself achieving the accomplishments that I did in the classroom and on the field.”
