Internship Provides Insight into the Audio Industry

When AJ Frownfelter ’25 was looking for an internship, Dr. Kyle Zeuch had a solution. Zeuch, Co-Chair and Associate Professor of Music, connected Frownfelter with a former colleague, and the result has been valuable real-world experience.
“When AJ came to me and described the type of experience he was interested in, I immediately thought of a friend from undergrad, Sean Beeson. Sean is a freelance composer who is heavily involved in all kinds of music production for video games, app development, YouTube videos, and movies with notable clients like Crescent Moon Games and Disney.
“As an intern, AJ is getting so many great real-life experiences as an entrepreneur in the Music Production field.”
This type of support and mentoring between faculty and students takes place across all departments and majors at Lebanon Valley College, where we help students go further and accomplish more than they ever thought possible.
??
What type of projects are you working on during your internship?
“I’ve primarily helped on projects by mixing music and editing dialogue. I also made sound effects for a children’s cartoon in addition to mixing and editing. Working on these projects has served as a sort of synthesis of most of the classes I’ve taken at LVC—I find myself pulling knowledge from classes from every year to do some of my best work yet.”
What have been some of the most impactful classes and experiences you’ve had on campus??
“Some of my favorite and most helpful classes I’ve taken have been Electronic Music, Game Audio, Mastering, and Audio for Digital Media. I also helped the Audio Engineering Society from time to time, mostly during my first two years.”
?
What made you decide on LVC?
“LVC was a relatively close school for me. The Audio Engineering Program was different from other schools because it focused more on the creative aspect and musicianship, which appealed to me a lot. Having us take music classes (Theory, Aural Skills, etc.) set me up to have a better ear when working in the music industry and on music-related projects. I’ve been equipped to contribute as a composer and designer for projects I otherwise might not have been prepared for.”
What are your career goals?
“My career goal is to be a Foley artist or sound designer for movies/TV or video games. Foley artists make sound effects for movies and television. They work in big studios with props and will ‘redo’ sounds like footsteps to make things sound more realistic to audience ears!”
